Flowers
Once a year at the first spring rains, Maggie's bouldered hills erupt into a blaze of yellow as the kapok's usually bare branches burst into blossom. The flowers give way to woody pods which release their feathered seeds on the wind. I love the impermanence of this unassuming plant's moment of glory and the juxtaposition of tough twisted limbs with delicate stained glass petals.
